Saturday 13th September was a day filled with energy, learning, and leadership as 11 athletes took part in Fitness Captain Training.

On Saturday 13th September, 2 of our Special Olympics Athletes from the Eastern Region took to the cold waters of the Liffey, Dublin, to battle it out among the hundreds of swimmers during the 105th Liffey Swim, hosted by Swim Ireland and Dublin City Council.

At the end of August 2025, Eastern Region Basketball Athlete, Ashwin Maliyakal, from Killester Basketball Club completed an Introductory Basketball referee course. This two-day course was run by Dublin Officials Association in ALSAA.

The selections for Team Connaught took place on Thursday 4th September in the Connacht Hotel, Galway.

On Saturday 6th September we held our Coaching Young Athletes coaching course in Belmullet, Co. Mayo. Our newly re-established Erris Special Olympics Club are eager to get back involved with Special Olympics and will be starting our Young Athletes Programme in the area.

We are delighted to announce that our regional athlete leadership forum is back for 2025! It’s on Saturday 22nd November at 10:00 am at The Connacht Hotel, Galway. Please save the date. Further information will be sent to clubs in the coming weeks.

The 2025 Special Olympics Ireland Volunteer Awards was a celebration of the commitment, spirit, and incredible work that our volunteers do in clubs and at events week-in, week-out.

Club Week 2025 will give club volunteers the opportunity to participate in a variety of training sessions and webinars to develop new skills and knowledge.

European Week of Sport is back for 2025 from 23rd–30th September, and we’ve got an amazing line-up of events planned.
