Special Olympics Ireland represented at the Presidential Inauguration

Special Olympics Ireland CEO Karen Coventry and the Chairperson of the Board Dr Brendan O’Brien were privileged to attend the Inauguration of the President of Ireland Catherine Connolly in Dublin Castle on Tuesday.

Special Olympics Ireland congratulates our new President, whose commitment to inclusion throughout society aligns with our vision of promoting a world where all are included through the medium of sport.

In her acceptance speech following the announcement of the Presidential election result, President Connolly stated that she championed a vision of society "that values everybody, that values and champions diversity…I would be an inclusive president for all of you and I regard it as an absolute honour."

Special Olympics Ireland CEO Karen Coventry said: “It was an honour to attend the Inauguration of the President of Ireland at the invitation of An Taoiseach. On behalf of everyone at Special Olympics Ireland, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to the President and look forward to continuing our work to build an Ireland where inclusion and opportunity through sport are open to all.”
