Leinster Region Athlete Profile: Meet Deirdre Nevin
Hi, my name is Deirdre Nevin and I’m 32 years old. I’m part of SOC Navan and Navan Arch Club, and I absolutely love being in sport and the Special Olympics.
I play basketball, swimming, table tennis, and floorball with Navan Arch Club, and I do running with SOC Navan. My coach Brendan works with me at SOC Navan - he’s amazing; and Fiona coaches me at Navan Arch Club. She’s also an amazing coach. They both help me do my best and believe in me.
One of my favourite things is playing basketball with my team. I love working together and helping each other on the court. I was so proud to get my Gold Award from the Athlete Leadership Programme. For my project, I did it on Australia, which I visited. It was such an incredible trip. I got to see the Great Barrier Reef and even did some scuba diving! I loved the beach, the lovely weather, and spending time with my family and cousins there. I’d love to go back again one day.
Being part of Special Olympics means so much to me. It gives me the chance to do what I love and meet great friends.
One of my biggest dreams is to be picked to represent Ireland at the World Games in Chile. I’m working hard, staying positive, and hoping I’ll get that opportunity someday.
