Athlete Spotlight: Jim Byrne

Hi, I am Jim Byrne. I am 28 years old, and I’ve been a member of Enniscorthy Special Olympics Club since I was 19. My favourite coach and friend is Larry Parle. I do running, walking, cycling, bowling and soccer. 

I enjoy Special Olympics because I get to be with my friends, keep my fitness up, go places - and also enjoy the end-of-year party! My greatest memories are taking part in the 2018 Games where I won a gold, silver and bronze medal; and also doing the Dublin City Marathon in 2021.

I now hope to do well in the Special Olympics in 2026 and maybe represent Ireland in the World Games.
