Women in Sport initiatives receive Sport Ireland funding for 2026

Special Olympics Ireland are proud to be supported by Sport Ireland and the Department of Sport through the 2026 Women in Sport Funding Programme, with €50,000 going to support initiatives coming under our Women in Sport Action Plan. 

This funding is central to our ambition to overcome barriers and create more opportunities for women and girls at every level. It will support our work across the four key Women in Sport policy areas:

✅ Coaching & Officiating
✅ Active Participation
✅ Leadership & Governance
✅ Visibility

This is part of a €4 million investment to drive the future of women and girls across Irish sport. Special Olympics Ireland was represented at the announcement of the funding by Special Olympics Ireland Director of the Eastern Region James Geraghty, Special Olympics Athlete Anita Forde and Women in Sport Inclusion Lead Sophie Doolan.

They joined representatives from Sport Ireland and a wide range of other National Governing Bodies for sport, coming together for the announcement of the funding by Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan and Minister for Sport and Postal Policy Charlie McConalogue.
