Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place on Saturday 10th June 2023.

The AGM order of business followed the Notice of Annual General Meeting as issued to our members.

Brendan O’Brien, Chairperson of the meeting, welcomed the attendees and gave the Chairperson’s Address. The Board’s commitment to maintaining the highest possible standard of governance so to make sure the opportunities are there for all into the future was affirmed.  The Chairperson confirmed Special Olympics Ireland’s is compliant with the Charities Governance Code, the Sport Ireland Governance Code and Anti-Doping Policy. 

  • CEO, Matt English, presented the company’s 2022 Annual Review.  You can view the full version of the 2022 Annual Review here.
  • Treasurer Donal Courtney presented the Financial Statements and Directors’ Report for the year ending 31st December 2022, which can be viewed here.
  • George Fitzgerald, athlete representative, provided an update on the work undertaken by the Athlete Voices Group.
  • Company Secretary, Rose Alice Murphy, presented the resolutions of the AGM, all of which were carried by the requisite majority by the Members and Delegates.   

Appointments

  • The AGM noted the appointment of:
    • Louise O’Loughlin as a Company Director who replaces Carolyn Jones as the Regional Chairperson of the Leinster Region.
    • Angela Litter as a Company Director as Chairperson of the Ulster Region
  • Director Donal Courtney was elected for another term (2 years) in line with the Articles of Association of the Company.

Retirements

·Recognition and thanks were expressed for the dedication and contribution of Brendan Whelan (out-going Chairperson) and Jim Pow, each of whom were retiring from the Board having served their maximum term.
