Cork City Libraries has developed sensory books based on Healthy Ireland’s three pillars; Eat Well, Think Well, which is supported by the Special Olympics Health Promotion Programme.

Cork City Libraries is committed to providing access and inclusion not only to Special Olympics Ireland athletes but to everyone with an intellectual disability or different learning needs in their community. The partnership between Special Olympics Ireland and Cork City Libraries that has grown since 2018, saw the development of sensory books based on Healthy Ireland’s three pillars; Eat Well, Think Well, which is supported by the Special Olympics Health Promotion Programme.

This project has brought the accessibility of health information to a new level. It has also allowed Special Olympics athletes to experience learning about health and wellbeing in a unique and creative way. The three sensory books (Eat Well, Think Well, Be Well) are available to members of the community to take out on loan from Cork City Libraries.

Check out the latest addition to the project, which sees three Special Olympics athletes star in video versions of the sensory books available to access on YouTube.
