Eastern athletes make waves at the Liffey Swim

On Saturday 13th September, 2 of our Special Olympics Athletes from the Eastern Region took to the cold waters of the Liffey, Dublin, to battle it out among the hundreds of swimmers during the 105th Liffey Swim, hosted by Swim Ireland and Dublin City Council.
The two participants were Jacob McKenna and Anthony Casey.

Over 320 swimmers competed in the race which consisted of a 2.2km swim through the heart of the city. Starting at Rory O’More bridge, swimmers passed under eleven bridges in total to pass through the finish line in front of The Custom House.
Anthony Casey crossed the line in 8th position at an outstanding finishing time of 38 minutes and 10 seconds.

Jacob McKenna was not too far behind as he crossed the line in a 16th place in an amazing time of 39 minutes and 15 seconds. Jacob McKenna, along with his teammates from Templeogue, Paul Dawson, Jor Durkan, and William Mullen, came out with a huge achievement by winning the overall Men’s Team Prize.
A massive congratulations to our athletes for the work they put into their training and commitment to their clubs and sport.
