Athlete leaders from Eastern and Leinster Regions come together for an inspiring Athlete Leadership Forum
On May 11th, athletes from across the Leinster and Eastern regions gathered at the Clayton Hotel for a day of inspiration, learning, and celebration. The Athlete Leadership Forum kicked off with registration and a warm welcome, followed by a series of exciting and engaging workshops designed to empower and equip participants.
The day began with an energetic dance session, bringing everyone together for an upbeat start. This was followed by two informative workshops: Self-Defense and First Aid, with athletes taking part in both activities, gaining essential skills for personal safety and well-being. After a calming yoga session to stretch and relax, participants enjoyed a well-deserved lunch before diving into a Leadership and Communication Workshop.
The day wrapped up with an inspiring panel discussion featuring special guests including Lisa Clancy, Irish Rugby Sevens Olympic athletes Bryan Molan and Nicky Greene, and Irish Basketball athlete Aine O’Connor. This panel shared their personal stories, leadership insights, and advice for athletes aspiring to make a difference both in sport and in life.
The event also celebrated the achievements of several outstanding athletes. Moira Scott from Laochra Laois, John Butler and Stuart Walsh from Navan Arch, and Ashwin Maliyakal from Killester BC all received Silver Awards, while Anita Forde from Palmerstown Wildcats BC was recognized with a Bronze Award. Deirdre Nevin from Navan Arch and Stephen Conway from South Dublin Sports Club were honored with Gold Awards.
The day was a fantastic opportunity for athletes to develop their leadership skills, share experiences, and connect with peers, coaches, and mentors. It was an unforgettable event that left everyone feeling motivated and proud to be part of the Special Olympics community.
