ATTENTION: Changes to Garda Vetting and Safeguarding
There are two important changes around volunteering that will affect ALL club volunteers.
Garda Vetting
New legislation is being introduced in the coming months that states - volunteers who regularly interact with children or vulnerable adults must complete vetting every three years. In mid-July we will contact club volunteers whose vetting is over three years old or whose vetting is just about to expire to ask them to complete their volunteer registration renewal.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is also a legislative requirement and needs to be renewed every three years. This is part of the renewal process and volunteers will not be renewed unless they have a valid Safeguarding qualification.
We are aware that it is not possible to attend a face to face course at present but Sport Ireland and Sport NI will soon be offering a virtual Safeguarding Level 1 course which Special Olympics will deliver in the Republic of Ireland and Sport NI will deliver in Northern Ireland. We will advise volunteers when Special Olympics Ireland online courses become available.
