Bocce

Bocce, another one of the more recent addition to the sports offered by Special Olympics Ireland, is an Italian Game which is very similar to Lawn Bowls. Opposing players/teams play with either red or green balls, competing in singles, doubles and team events.

Bocce may be played on an Astroturf, carpet or clay surface and each playing surface is known as a court. The objective of the sport is to roll a bocce ball closest to the target ball, which is called a pallina. Games can be played as singles, doubles or in teams of 4.

In Ireland 1,753 Special Olympics athletes take part in bocce in 129 different clubs.
