Sean O’Brien, Leinster and Ireland Rugby hero has pledged his support for Special Olympics Ireland’s Collection Day, which will take place throughout Ireland on Friday 27th April 2012. He is urging people to help out on the day by volunteering to collect in their locality.

Sean O’ Brien said “I am proud to fan the flame for Special Olympics Ireland. Special Olympics athletes are hugely dedicated to their sport and train very hard to be the best they can be. By volunteering to collect on April 27th we will all be showing these athletes just how much we support them”.

The aim of Special Olympics Collection Day, which is proudly supported by eircom, is to raise funds to support the programme of sports training and competition offered by Special Olympics Ireland so that every person with an intellectual disability has the opportunity to reap the rewards of participating in sport.

Matt English, CEO Special Olympics Ireland said “Friday, April 27th marks the biggest day in our annual fundraising calendar. We need volunteers to help us collect in cities and towns throughout Ireland to ensure we are successful. Even a few hours will make a huge difference and will help us to ensure that we continue to realise our promise of changing the lives of people with an intellectual disability through sport”.

Carolan Lennon, Chief Commercial Officer, eircom said “eircom is proud to support Special Olympics Ireland’s Collection Day. This is such an important fundraising event for the organisation and I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved. I along with many of my colleagues in eircom will be shaking a collection bucket on the day to help raise funds for Special Olympics Ireland, an organisation which we have been proud to be associated with for over 26 years”.
