Level 2 Swimming Gala University of Limerick
187 athletes competed on 6th November in the Arena swimming pool in the University of Limerick. The facility was made available to Special Olympics Munster by the Sports Dept of the University and it was a pleasure to use such a wonderful pool for our gala. The 90 volunteers were all volunteers who had worked at the Ireland games in UL in the summer and there was a great buzz generated. The event was opened by the Mayor of Limerick City Cllr Maria Byrne who was a volunteer at Ireland Games.
The Competition Manager for the event was Mary Phelan who was also competition manager at Ireland Games and event manager was Elizabeth Stundon also an event manger at Ireland Games. This event was part of the Munster Legacy plans supported by staff member Ann O’Callaghan and volunteers from the Limerick Special Olympics Office. Many thanks to everyone who made the day so memorable for our athletes.
