Ireland and Leinster Prop Tadhg Furlong is the latest sports person to throw his weight behind the 2016 Polar Plunge in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. The Wexford native has issued the call alongside fellow rugby player David Wallace, Dublin Footballer Dean Rock and Olympians Natalya Coyle and Darren O’Neill.

The Special Olympics International Board of Directors held a meeting in Washington, D.C. on November 15th where they were pleased to award their flagship event and world's largest humanitarian and sporting event of 2019, the Special Olympics World Games, to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Dublin GAA Footballers Dean Rock celebrated this morning’s announcement of his first ever All-Star award with a chat about the 2016 Polar Plunge on the Nicky Byrne Show with Jenny Greene on RTÉ 2fm. The three-time All-Ireland winner was in high spirits and ended his interview with a surprise announcement about who might be joining him at the 40ft in Sandycove on December 3rd.

I am one of the athletes from the Bruach Na Mara Centre in Connemara.  We are all athletes from around the Connemara area. We have a great Special Olympics Head Coach and her name is Elva Glynn. We also have a great Special Olympics athletics coach and his name is Sean Breathnach. We have great volunteers in our club their names are Elva Glynn, Sean Breathnach, Mairin Breathnach, Sinead O Kane, Rory Bane and Lisa Goaley.

The Special Olympics Summer World Games takes place this July in Los Angeles. 
88 Irish athletes have been chosen to compete in these Games. To cover the cost of sending Team Ireland to the Games we have set up our "Support an Athlete" Campaign which if a fundraising drive aimed at raising €440,000.
