Tuesday January 26th, 2010 – Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia (SOEE) has recently redesigned its website, www.specialolympics-eu.org, to bring together an online community of athletes, volunteers and fans of the movement; promoting respect, acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities.

On Saturday 5th December 2009 a number of Basket Ball teams from all over Ireland travelled to DublinCityUniversity to take part in the Inaugural Special Olympics Ireland Basketball Cup Competition. Eight Special Olympics Ireland Basketball teams competed on the day in the hope of taking home the prestigious INTO sponsored Sean Brosnahan Memorial Cup. The event, which took place in order to mark the 6th Annual Special Olympics Europe Eurasia Celebration of Basketball week, was a great success.

Carton House recently played host to a very exciting day in the history of Special Olympics Golf. With representatives from Junior Golf Ireland, the Professional Golfers Association (Ireland), the Golfing Union of Ireland, the Ladies Golfing Union and Special Olympics Ireland athletes and coaches in attendance, the first ever Special Olympics Golf Leader Course and manual was launched.

Special Olympics Ireland received an invitation to send two golfers to Taiwan to partake in a level 5 (18 hole) golf tournament which took place in Taiwan early in October.

In 1995 Aine Hickey attended the Special Olympics World Games in Connecticut U.S.A. with her son Brian. Whilst there, she was very impressed by the organisation and the degree of parental involvement with the athletes and wondered about the possibility of starting something similar in Ireland

The smart red bracelet with gold clasp will retail at €25 and all proceeds will go towards Special Olympics Ireland’s ongoing programme for people with an intellectual disability.
