Volunteer / Mentor with the Athlete Leadership Programme (ALPs)

What is a mentor?

A mentor is a volunteer who provides support for the ALPs athlete and must:

  • be a registered volunteer with Special Olympics Ireland
  • be over 18
  • be willing to give the commitment necessary
  • have knowledge of the ALPs programme
  • preferably not be a family member of the athlete
     

What is the role of a mentor?

  • to support the athlete in the award scheme
  • attend meetings and workshops with athlete
  • practise writing and delivering speeches with athlete
  •
