The 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games will take place in Athens, Greece from June 25 – July 4 2011.
Approx 110 Irish Athletes will represent Ireland in 12 different sports.
Accompanying them to Athens will be a team of volunteers – that means you can be in with a chance to be a part of TEAM2011
It also means you have played your part in getting the athletes to Athens as they are NOT being asked to raise money to travel and represent Ireland at the Games.

TEAM2011 aims
- To provide an experienced, self sustaining team of motivated and enthusiastic volunteers to the 2011 World Games Organising Committee
- To raise funds for Special Olympics Ireland
- To raise awareness of Special Olympics Ireland’s World Summer Games Team
Your fundraising target…..
The total amount required to fundraise by every member of TEAM2011 is €3250
This €3250 will cover the costs of travel, accommodation, insurance etc and also raise essential funds for the athletes traveling to the games, and for Special Olympics Ireland to maintain and improve the programme in Ireland, by increasing the number of participating athletes.
TEAM2011 requirements:
All TEAM2011 volunteers must be a Special Olympics Ireland volunteer and be available to travel between June 22nd and July 6.
There will be training sessions for all volunteers travelling to Athens to help with fundraising, language and cultural requirements and of course training in relation to the jobs that each volunteer will be assigned as part of the Games.
Volunteers must be willing to accept the assigned roles that are given by Special Olympics Ireland and / or the GOC of the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
Special Olympics Ireland will arrange and fund all logistical aspects of the trip – from flights, transport, accommodation and catering.
