Inter Club Event

Monaghan Special Olympics Club recently hosted an inter-club event for athletes from Down Special Olympics Club. Athletes from both the Club came together to participate in a table tennis tournament. The event was a great success and Down Special Olympics Club will be hosting a similar event for the Monaghan Club later in the year. Pictured below are athletes who took part in the event.





Lisburn 2Gether Awards Night

Lisburn 2Gether Special Olympics Club recently hosted their Annual Awards Night at the Lagan Valley Island Centre. Athletes and volunteers from Lisburn 2Gether Special Olympics Club came together to celebrate the achievements of all the athletes in the Club and the volunteers who support them. Lisburn 2Gether Special Olympics Club offer athletes from the Lisburn area training in the sports of Bocce, Football, Swimming and Badminton. Two athletes from the Club, Oliver Magee and Peter McCord, were presented a special award for their achievements at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens. Club volunteer Willie McMillan was presented with the 'Volunteer of the Year Award' for his work with coaching the athletes in the Club and his involvement in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens. 
Lisburn 2Gether Special Olympics Club are currently seeking volunteers to help with the running of the football Club. This Club meets on Tuesday evenings between 7pm and 8pm at Sally Gardens Community Centre.

City Strikers Fundraising Night

The City Strikers Special Olympics Ten Pin Bowling Club from Newry are hosting a fundraising event to support the work of the Club on Monday 12th of March 2012. The event is taking place at the Sheepbridge Bowling Alley, Newry. Monaghan Clubs celebrate European Basketball Week



On Tuesday 29th of November athletes from Clones Special Olympics Club travelled to St Macartan's College for a game of basketball with Monaghan Special Olympics Club.   Pictured above are athletes, coaches and supporters from both Clubs.   A very enjoyable evening was had by all!   A return match will take place on the 5th of December between the Clubs.   The Annual Special Olympics Basketball week ran from 26th of November to 4th of December and aimed to increase participation in basketball events.  

Penguins visit Omagh

Omagh District and Star Breakers Special Olympics Clubs hosted interclub swimming gala

Omagh District and Star Breakers Special Olympics Clubs hosted an interclub swimming gala and fun day on the 28th May.

The day started with athletes, families and volunteers from the Splasin Penguins, Foyle, Strabane & District, Omagh District and Star Breakers Special Olympics Clubs meeting at Ulster American Folk Park Residential Centre for a hearty breakfast. This was followed by a visit around the folk park.Then it was off to Omagh Leisure Complex for the highlight of the day, the swimming competition.  The atmosphere was set as 75 athletes completed a lap of the pool to the cheers and applause from the many family members and friends in the viewing gallery. 'Come into my Parlour'

The Mayor of Coleraine, Alderman Maurice Bradley, welcomed members of RDA Coleraine and friends to the Mayor's Palour on Wednesday, 10th August, to celebrate and honour the achievements of Steven Yetman, who had attended the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens 2011. Click here to read more.
