Volunteering with Special Olympics Munster

Special Olympics Munster would not exist today without the time, energy, commitment and enthusiasm of volunteers. Every day in communities all over the island of Ireland, thousands of individuals take a little time from their busy schedules to help change the lives of people with an intellectual disability.

What you need to know:

  1. You must be 15 years of age or over to volunteer.
  2. Volunteers under 18 must complete a hardcopy form.
  3. All volunteers are subject to Garda Vetting.
  4. It can take upto 4 months for an application to be processed.
  5. It is the responsibility of all volunteers to familiarise themselves with Special Olympics Ireland

Calling All Limerick Volunteers

Any volunteers in the Limerick area who would like to assist at our Bocce Competitions in February are asked to make contact. The events will be held on Sunday 5th Feb 2012 and Sunday 26th Feb in the Delta Sports Dome Ballysimon Industrial Estate Limerick. We need to set up an event planning team and also volunteers who would like to just help out on the days of the events.

A Motor Activities Training Programme Event will be held on Sat 11th Feb in St. Vincent’s Lisnagry Limerick.  An event team and extra day volunteers are needed.

Calling Tipperary Volunteers

Volunteers are also needed for a Motor Activities Training event on Sat 25th Feb 2012 in Cappawhite Community Centre Cappawhite.

Calling East Cork Volunteers

Volunteers around the Mitchelstown/Fermoy/Mallow/ Cork area are needed for a swimming gala in Fermoy Leisure Centre on Sat 3rd March. We need to form an event planning team in addition to volunteers who would like to just help out on the day

Waterford Volunteers Needed

On Saturday June 9th we are holding an athletics event in the RSC Waterford. It has been many years since we had an athletics event in Waterford, we will need about 80 volunteers from the Waterford area to run this event.

At the present time we are particularly looking for volunteers who would like to be involved in the event management team. Training for this team will be provided so it is an exciting opportunity for any volunteer to get involved in.

General volunteers are required for one hour every Monday evening from 5pm to 6pm (approx.) in Listower or Tarbert
  • General athlete supervision and encouragement

  • Drivers, especially those with a D1 driving licence, for evenings and Saturdays.
  • Badminton coach with some experience on Mondays from 7pm to 8pm
  • Athletics coaches for Mondays from 6pm to 7pm
  • Swimming coaches for Tuesdays from midday to 1pm or Thursdays from 3pm to 4pm
