Regional Family Events
One of the ways in which we have increased networking amongst our families, and inform them on the ins and outs of Special Olympics, is through our annual Family Event.

Family Services
Our Regional Family support team actively hold family service area’s at various Regional events each year. Our team also have merchandise available (click here to see merchandise available) at each family service area. In 2011, our team have held family service areas at the following events:
- Athletics 26th March & 9th April (Irishtown Stadium)
- Regional Alpine Event 16th April (Kilternan Ski Club)
- Future service areas
- Football finals day 22nd May (DCU)

Regional Family Team
In 2008/09 the region created the Regional Family Support Team. After several initial meetings, a team was formed of nearly 10 family members within the region. The teams mandate is to try to engage more families with Special Olympics by educating families on all aspects of Special Olympics as well as bringing family members together on a social platform to encourage networking amongst all our families.
Our Regional Family team consists of; Shelagh Leech, Denis O’Reilly, Brendan Whelan, Jenny Hendrick, Ria Croydon, Olive Kelly, Colm Leech & Liam O’Brien. If you would like to get involved with this great team please contact erfamilies@specialolympics.ie
Regional Family E-Zine
In 2011 the team developed the idea to create a family ‘E-Zine’ which is like an online newsletter which can be sent directly to all registered family members who have an email address.
Our Regional Family E-Zine will be sent once a month to all family members, each month will have a specific theme (e.g. sport, divisioning, honest effort, 15% rule, etc) where we will aim to answer common frequently asked questions by family members in order to educate families on any queries they may have in relation to Special Olympics. This E-Zine was developed by families, managed by families and received by families.
