Annual Regional Meeting
The 2017 Annual Regional Meeting of Special Olympics Connaught was held on Tuesday 13th March 2018 in Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon at 7.30pm. A big thank you to registered athletes, volunteers and family members that attended, also Peter O'Brien our guest speaker from Special Olympics Ireland who discussed the changes in the data protection act. We'd like to thank our out going committee members, Marie Allen, Carol Tahney, Veronica Murray and Deirdre Kavanagh for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the Regional Committee over the last 6 years .
Connaught
Special Olympics Connaught provides year round sports training and competition for over 1,300 adults and children with intellectual disabilities in Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Westmeath.
Over 30 sports competitions and development days are held annually in 13 Olympic type sports.
There are 73 Special Olympics clubs in the Connaught region.
The mission of Special Olympics is “to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community”.
