Splashin' Penguins Special Olympics Club Celebrate's 20th Anniversary

The Splasin' Penguins Special Olympics Club celebrated their 20th anniversary at Lola Montez. The event was marked with the presentation of the Tony Rennick Cup for the Most Improved Swimmer, which was awarded to athlete John Gordon by Cathaoirleach Cllr Seamus Kilgannon. In recognition of the clubs mile stone achievement, presentations were also made to the club by Myra Merrick, the Regional Director for Special Olympics Connaught and Pat O'Malley for her work with the club. In it's two decade history, Splashin' Penguins have gone from strength to strength and have confirmed that four of their athletes have been selected to represent Connaught at the National Games being held in Dublin next year. Among the clubs talented athletes is Strandhill native Joseph Cullen who won a gold medal at the World Summer Games in Athens in 2011 for the 100 Individual Medley.
