Ireland and Leinster Prop Tadhg Furlong is the latest sports person to throw his weight behind the 2016 Polar Plunge in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. The Wexford native has issued the call alongside fellow rugby player David Wallace, Dublin Footballer Dean Rock and Olympians Natalya Coyle and Darren O’Neill.

The 2016 Polar Plunge is all set for six locations around the country and hundreds upon hundreds of fundraisers are ready to get Freezin For A Reason. But what if it’s your first time? Nervous? Shivering already? Don’t be. Here are a couple of essential tips to get you through.

Floorball Development Day

We held a very successful development day on Saturday 17th November 2018 in the Kingfisher Gym, NUIG, Galway.
49 athletes were in attendance and got to try out the sport and participate in a number of matches. Thanks to all the volunteers 
who helped out, in particular Michael Lynch and Terence Flynn who led the session.

Rhythmic Gymnastics Weekend in North Galway

Tuam/Headford SOC held a a very successful inter-club event for Gymnastics athletes on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October.

About the Connaught region

Special Olympics Connaught provides year round sports training and competition for over 1,300 adults and children with intellectual disabilities in Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Westmeath.

Numerous sports competitions and development days are held annually in 13 Olympic type sports. 

There are 73 Special Olympics clubs in the Connaught region.

The mission of Special Olympics is “to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community”.
