Special Olympics Men's 11-a-side football league kicked off last weekend. Teams from all over the island of Ireland will compete in this league which runs from now until May

Dublin City Council, the Irish Sports Council and Sport Northern Ireland will be jointly hosting the All Island Sports Conference: Active Participantion 'Be Part of the Debate' on Thursday 21st October 2010 from 6.00-7.30pm at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin 4 and Friday 22nd October 2010 from 9.00am- 5.30pm at the National Convention Centre, Dublin.

 Annual Regional Meeting

The 2019 Annual Regional Meeting of Special Olympics Connaught will be held on Thursday 26th March 2020 in Lough Rea Hotel, Loughrea, Co. Galway at 7.30pm.
All registered athletes, volunteers and family members are invited to attend.
We look forward to seeing you on the night and should you require further information please contact the regional office.

About the Connaught region

Special Olympics Connaught provides year round sports training and competition for over 1,082 adults and children with intellectual disabilities in Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Westmeath.
Numerous sports competitions and development days are held annually in 13 Olympic type sports. There are 73 Special Olympics clubs in the Connaught region.The mission of Special Olympics is:
 
“to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community”.

A Civic Reception was held by Roscommon County Council in the Arts Centre in Roscommon Town on 4th December to recognise and honour the people of Roscommon for their recent success on the National and International stage.

Signing with Lamh

Special Olympics coaches and volunteers teamed up with coaches and volunteers from Sligo Sport & Recreation Partnership and attended a Lamh communication introductory workshop led by experienced Lamh tutor Anita Loftus,  the workshop was a great introduction to using lamh sign language.
