Oliver Hanratty from Dundalk in Co. Louth is very much looking forward to making the long journey to Limerick to participate in the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games which are due to take place from 9th to 13th June.

2010 promises to be a fantastic year for William O’Brien as he prepares to participate in the Special Olympics Ireland Games which will be held in Limerick from 9th to 13th June.

We made a mosaic at work out of broken tiles. Everyone had ideas about what to do on the mosaic.

Every day in work I am on a Fetac Training Programme and I like it because we get a €30 training allowance. My favourite bands are Westlife and Boyzone and Abba.

Floorball Development Day

Are you or you're club interested in trying a new and exciting team sport. If so then then the above day may be of interest to you.

When: 17th November 2018
Where: Kingfisher Gym, NUIG, Galway
Time: 10.00am - 3.00pm

Come along and try the sport and get some expert advice on what it is all about.

Athlete Forum

Athlete Leadership encourages athletes to develop skills which will empower them to be advocates for all athletes and act as a Leader for Special Olympics. Becoming involved in Athlete Leadership provides athletes with many new and different opportunities in areas of public speaking, volunteering and governance. Athletes over the age of 16 years, working with a mentor are welcome to attend the upcoming Ireland Athlete Forum.

Galway West Special Olympics Club 

Galway West Special Olympics Club Open Day took place on Sunday, 5th August at Ower Equestrian Centre, Roscahill. Club athletes and volunteers were in attendance to give a display of their equestrian skills on the day. A fun day was had by all.

About the Connaught region

Special Olympics Connaught provides year round sports training and competition for over 1,300 adults and children with intellectual disabilities in Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Westmeath.

Over 30 sports competitions and development days are held annually in 13 Olympic type sports. 

There are 73 Special Olympics clubs in the Connaught region.

 The mission of Special Olympics is “to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community”.
