Sports Events

Each year, Special Olympics Connaught holds over 30 sports events throughout the region.
An event is a one day sports competition. It often involves athletes from several groups such as Special Olympics Clubs, schools and local centres. Athletes are accompanied by their coaches, other supporters and volunteers. They gather in one location with the aim of participating in a specific sports competition. If you would like to help out at any of our sports events please contact us on 071 9118320 or email

Fundraising Events

By participating in our fundraising activities you, or your organisation, are helping to raise vital funds that will help Special Olympics Connaught provide sports training and competition to people with intellectual disabilities. A local fundraising event is a great opportunity to meet up with friends and raise much needed funds for Special Olympics Connaught. In the past fundraisers have organized great initiatives from Polar Plunges to church gate collections.

If you decide to run your own event we will be delighted to help and can provide you with posters, sponsorship forms, fundraising t-shirts, an online fundraising page and plenty of advice from our experienced events team. By taking part in one of our events like the All Ireland Collection Day or by organising your own event you will be helping us to help those who have intellectual disabilities.

We appreciate all donations no matter how small. For further information on our fundraising events or how you can get involved please email or contact the Connaught office on 071 9118320. Check out our a-z of fundraising ideas and our tips for organising your own event. Take the hassle out of collecting sponsorship by setting up your own sponsorship page on this website. In just a few clicks your friends can make a donation to your fundraising target, and it's also a useful way to keep a record of your sponsorship.

Office Administration

From time to time we recruit volunteers who assist with office administration such as making phone calls, sending emails, photocopying, updating databases etc in our offices based in Collooney, Sligo. If you would like to help in this way, computer and office skills would be an advantage. Ideally volunteers will need to be available on weekdays from 12pm - 3pm or Thursday evenings from 5pm - 9pm.

For further information call 071 9118320 or email

Athletes prepare for competition as members of a local Special Olympics club. Anyone who is at least 6 years old and is identified as having an intellectual disability may train as a Special Olympics athlete. Athletes must have a current Medical and Consent form on file and be at least 8 years old to be eligible for competition. They train under certified coaches assisted by volunteers. Special Olympics clubs can be found throughout the region.
