8am Another early rise for the athletes and with bags packed and tired eyes, it was down for our last Polish breakfast in Olsztyn.
2pm Arrived at the University where we will be spending the next few days. It’s a great accommodation venue with onsite entertainment, food and the Healthy Athletes Village.
7.30 All the athletes make their way to the Legia Warsaw Stadium for the Opening Ceremony. There was hugh excitement while we waited to enter the stadium with all the other countries, in front of a live television audience. The Irish families and supporters made their presence known waving and holding banners and flags when Team Ireland entered.
The ceremony was opened by Tim Shriver (President of Special Olympics) followed by Ruth Geerah (Team Ireland) who read the Athletes Oath. After that, the party kicked off when Simply Red took to the stage. All the athletes participated in some way, dancing, holding the umbrellas, shining the lights and the whole ceremony ended on a high with fireworks.
