Francis has been involved with Special Olympics for the past 10 years and during that time he has enjoyed much success in his sports participating in lots of competitions and winning a number of medals at regional level and Ireland level.
Francis is a member of Navan Arch Club where he trains weekly with his club mates. Before joining Special Olympics, Francis’ life was not as busy as it is now and he found that he was bored alot of the time. He didn’t have pursuits of his own, wasn’t actively involved in sports and didn’t have many friends so he spent most of his time at home. All that changed dramatically through Special Olympics as he now has regular training sessions to look forward to, and is much fitter. Francis says that Special Olympics helps him to achieve his goals and has also helped him to make many friends.
Francis is really looking forward to travelling to the Games in Poland and experiencing all the excitement of the Games. His hope is to do his best for Ireland and to do really well in his sport.
This is not the first time that Francis has been selected to represent Ireland at European Games level, he has previously competed at Games in Belgium and France. None the less he feels very privileged to be among the 34 athletes travelling to Poland.
In his spare time Francis enjoys music and his favourite song is The Wonder of You by Elvis Presley.
