Nicolle Smith from Down is one of 34 athletes who travelled to Poland as part of Team Ireland to participate at the Special Olympics European Games in September.
Nicolle will compete in athletics at the Special Olympics European Games. She has been involved with Special Olympics for the past 5 years and is a member of North Down Special Olympics Club. Nicolle has enjoyed much success through Special Olympics and won 2 gold medals at the 2009 Special Olympics Ulster Regional Games in Letterkenny. More recently she won 2 gold medals at the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games, which took place in Limerick in June.
Nicolle loves being involved with Special Olympics and really enjoys the social side of things.
This is the first time that Nicolle has been selected to represent Ireland at European Games level and she feels very privileged. She hopes to do well and is also looking forward to meeting lots of new people from different countries.
In her free time Nicolle enjoys horse-riding, listening to music and basketball. Her
basketball coach Mike is her all time sporting hero because he encourages her to be the best she can and shows her how to improve.
