Doreen McGreevey from Cork (pictured second from the left) is one of 34 athletes who travelled to Poland as part of Team Ireland to participate at the Special Olympics European Games in September. Doreen won 1 bronze medal and won 7th place in the singles event in Poland.

Doreen has been involved with Special Olympics for the past 20 years and enjoys playing table tennis with her friends at the Cope Foundation and Beech Hill Table Tennis Club in Cork. Doreen has played table tennis for many years but through Special Olympics she has been able to compete in table tennis competition, which she really enjoys as she enjoys competing in sport. Doreen has enjoyed much success through Special Olympics participating in and winning a number of medals at Ireland regional level.
Special Olympics has changed Doreen’s life and she loves being involved. Her family is hugely important to her but table tennis occupies a close second place!
This is the first time that Doreen has been selected to represent Ireland at European Games level and she feels very privileged. She is really excited about travelling to Poland.
When she is not busy training Doreen loves spending time with her family. She is a big fan of Daniel O’ Donnell and also enjoys watching Eastenders - her favourite television programme.
