I have applied to do a course in Culinary Skills in Sandymount. This course is for people with disabilities and is for 86 weeks (this means this is a two year course). This course will pay me for the days I go in which is great. So I would be earning at the same time which is great. I am excited to start but I am waiting to do a sample course which is three days.

It’s just to sample the course to see if I like it, and if I do I will be doing this course for two years. It would be great as I would learn how to make meals. This is a life skill to have but the outcome of this course for me would be having the skills but not working in the area.

I have a job coach and she helps me to find employment. I also have a support worker that helps me to get support around employment and in other areas that I need support with. I gave my CV to my job coach and also to my support worker. I will be giving my CV to employers that I hope to work for. I don’t mind working part time or full time. I don’t mind working any days Monday – Sunday, I would like to have most weekends off and I would like flexible work hours but whatever suits. Most of all I want to get out of the house and enjoy my life to the fullest and to do something with it. And to meet people and make a lot of friends and to have a job that I like and to work with people in a team that I could bring my skills to.

I would like to find out how many people with disabilities work in the workforce in Ireland. Because I think it is terrible that people who have disabilities don’t work I personally think that anyone who has a disability deserves to be treated equally and  employers should look at us for who we are and the potential that we have. I feel very strongly about this.

A few weeks ago I went to Trim for a fundraising event to raise money for the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organization. One of the athletes on the Irish team lives in Trim and she is well known.

I went to the cinema with my college friend to see Bridesmaids, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, The Guard and Zookeeper. I thought Bridesmaids was the best film I’ve seen. It is a female-led comedy, and it is like Bride Wars. It is really good I would recommend this film to everyone except children.

I am getting treatment on my teeth so I have been going to orthodontic appointments. I have had braces for a long time now and now I am due to have an operation on my teeth. What they are going to do is to break my jaw and re-align it. This will be a day procedure so I will be able to come home that day. I will be on pain killers and I won’t be able eat. These will last for a week I will probably eat my meals through a straw. But it will be worth it once I am all fixed and the braces can come off.
