Since my last blog I went and got surgery on my knee. It went very well; the surgery took 20 minutes and the rest of the time I was in recovery. I knew what I was getting myself into and I knew exactly what they were doing to me as I did some research before the operation.

Before the surgery all the doctors and nurses spoke to me directly because they knew that I understood what they were doing to me. They didn’t treat me as if I didn’t understand. I was able to sign my signature on all the documents that they needed while I was in having my surgery. The following day I had physio and I got a lot of exercises to do. Since I came out, I have been doing physio every day.

It has been over two months since the operation and I am now feeling alot better. I can move around on my knee much more, and I am even riding my bicycle. I am also doing some fast walking and swimming so I am staying active. I am still doing the physio and I am getting there with it.

I have a competition coming up in November in Portugal for the International Swimming Championships. I will need to train hard over the next three months. I am not sure if I will be ready for this competition, three months will go so quickly and I haven’t been swimming for a while now. But I will do my best with the time I have.

I am a little nervous about getting back to my physical sports, because it has been about two years now.  And I can’t wait to go back, because it has been a long time. But sometimes I am not sure if I will go back at all. I may move on and do other things with my life.

I went to Limerick for my brother’s big graduation which took place in June. I was on crutches when I was going down to limerick. I got the train with my mum and my brother collected us from the train station. And then we went back to the house and all of my brother’s house mates were there with their families.

It was great to see everyone together on their special day. They had lots food there at the house; they had soup, sandwiches, muffins, cupcakes, apple pie and many more. After we had lunch my brother brought me and mum over to the hotel we were staying in. After we checked in, we went up to our room to get ready for the graduation. We were collected by my brother’s girlfriend to go onto the graduation. The graduation took place in University Of Limerick. It was a special day and the weather was beautiful. I thought it was very special and I am very proud of my brother. I can’t believe that my brother is now a doctor.

I think this is a big deal because my brother will be saving people’s lives every day for the rest of his life. This is a huge responsibility but I would reckon it is an honour to be a doctor. The course that my brother did is a four year course and this is the first ever Graduates of University Of Limerick Graduate Entry Medical School. All 32 students including my brother were admitted to the course in 2007 and then proceeded to graduate.

My brother came home after the graduation to stay until he found a place near to where he will be working. He will be working in St James Hospital for this year. It was great to have him home and to spend some time with him. He brought home his girlfriend and a friend of his to stay in my home for a while. It was fun to have the company and I love spending time with my brother.

He found a place at the end of June and I went up with my mum to help him move in. It’s quite a nice place that they are staying in and it is near to the hospital that they will be working in.

I have been working with Trinity College Dublin as the Rollout Support Officer. This means I travel around Ireland to 3rd level colleges to promote the Certificate in Contemporary Living course. I have been to NUI Galway, St. Anglea’s College Sligo and Mary Immaculate College Limerick. I also attend business partner events, open days, conferences and many more events. I also help with the some of the research and I get paid for what I do with them.

I am hoping to do a course in the Dublin Business School. It is a Diploma in Event Management & PR. This course is for one evening per week from 6.15 – 9.30pm and is for 14 weeks part-time. I would like to do this course because I think I would benefit a lot. I would learn new skills also benefit from the social side by making new friends as well. It would be great to have these skills under my belt. At least I have one foot in the right direction to where I want to go!
