Gerard’s sport is table tennis and he has been involved with Special Olympics Ireland through Rehabcare Sligo, for the past 10 years. Gerard has enjoyed much success through Special Olympics winning medals at regional, Ireland and World Games.
Before joining Special Olympics Gerard loved sport but didn’t have the opportunity to compete or be a part of a club. Through Special Olympics, Gerard has been able to compete and be part of a club, which is very important to him. He has made lots of friends through Special Olympics and was part of Team Ireland who travelled to China for the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
Dermot is very much looking forward to attending the Special Olympics European Games in Warsaw along with the rest of Team Ireland who have all become great friends over the last few months.
When he is not busy training Dermot enjoys watching sport, going to the gym and socialising with his friends.
